Dublin Castle Print - Dublin Town

A castle with an incredibly rich history, Dublin Castle was built in the thirteenth century on a Viking settlement site and was once home to the headquarters of the British administration in Ireland. Following the state’s independence from Britain the building was used by the Irish government and to this day serves as a major government building. Alongside being highly functional, it is also a truly beautiful building housing the Chester Beatty Library on its grounds. Our print depicts a building of many different names now know as The Medieval Tower it has also over the years has known as Gunner’s Tower, Record Tower or Wardrobe Tower. Each of the different names represent a function the tower held through the years. One of the oldest surviving parts of Dublin City our Dublin Town collection wouldn’t be complete without it.
